Opposition
We publish trademark registrations in the Trademarks Gazette, which comes out twice a month. After the Gazette has come out, anyone is entitled to lodge an opposition against a trademark published in it.
How to lodge an opposition
You must submit your opposition in writing by sending two copies to the NBPR within two months from the publishing day. You must give your grounds for the opposition and specify which goods or services are concerned. Oppositions must be filed in Finnish or Swedish.Opposition fee
When you file an opposition you must pay an opposition fee (see our price list). The matter will not become pending unless you pay the opposition fee.Agent
If an opponent is not domiciled in Finland they must appoint an agent to represent them in the matter.Opposition proceedings
The applicant is notified of the opposition and invited to give a statement addressing the opposition. The registration is then retried on the basis of the application documents, the opposition and the applicant’s statement. A trademark registration can be revoked either totally or in part on account of an opposition.
