President Enäjärvi to head an EU Office

Mr Martti Enäjärvi, President of the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland, was today, 22 November 2004, elected as Chairperson of the Administrative Board of the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market – Trade Marks and Designs (OHIM).

Enäjärvi was elected unanimously for the term 1 January 2005 – 20 March 2006 in a session of 25 countries. He will at the same time function as the Chairperson of the OHIM’s Nomination Committee, the term of which begins on 23 November 2004. These are positions of trust, so Martti Enäjärvi will continue carrying out his duties as President of the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland in the normal manner.

OHIM (the EU Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market – Trade Marks and Designs) is located in Alicante, Spain, and it is one of the largest EU offices not operating in Brussels. Today OHIM employs a staff of around 700.
