Centenarian Eemeli Väyrynen - Finland’s oldest patentee

The National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland (NBPR) has granted a patent to Mr Eemeli Väyrynen (the photo), a centenarian from Keminmaa, Northern Finland. Mr Väyrynen is the oldest person in Finland to obtain a patent. His invention concerns an improvement to potato planters.

The improved potato planter is simple in construction yet versatile in use and it can be easily adapted to different needs; for example, it is ideal for farms growing early potatoes. You can access patent No. 120998 through NBPR’s patent database PatInfo at http://patent.prh.fi/patinfo/default2.asp.

A patent awarding ceremony was arranged at Pohjanranta farm on 24 June 2010. The letters patent was handed over to Eemeli Väyrynen by the representatives of NBPR, President Martti Enäjärvi (in the middle) and Vice President Pekka Launis (in the left).

Eemeli Väyrynen is the father of Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen, who was also present.
