Requirement of submitting original patent and utility model documents slackens

Documents relating to patent and utility model applications are received daily round the clock via telecopy, email and the eOLF program by the National Board of Patents and Registration (NBPR). The date of receiving these documents is registered as the day on which they arrive at the NBPR. This includes documents sent by post. You can also hand in documents at the NBPR client service on weekdays 8.00-16.15.

You need no longer send the originals of all documents to us. Documents of which uncertified copies can be submitted include application documents, replies to official actions, objections, oppositions, withdrawals, transfers, name changes, licenses, pledgings, requests under section 71 a of the Patents Act and section 26 a of the Act on Utility Model Rights, and changes of address.

The above procedure is possible if there is no reason to doubt the identity of the sender or the authenticity of the documents. However, the NBPR may require the applicant to submit originals of documents, if necessary. In addition, all documents must be clear enough to enable the patent office to process the application and the matter on the basis of them. Please note that if you send documents by telecopy, you must also submit one additional set of print-quality documents for the preparation of a patent or utility model specification.

For instructions on electronic eOLF submission of documents, please visit our website at http://patent.prh.fi/ >Sähköinen asiointi >Electronic services.

Visit our client service at Arkadiankatu 6 A, Helsinki or send documents by telecopy (09) 6939 5328 or by email at registry@prh.fi.
