Patent Prosecution Highway Mottainai pilot extended

The National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland (NBPR) continues the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) Mottainai project with the patent offices of Japan, the United States, Canada, Russia, and Spain. The agreement with these countries is in force until further notice in order to gain experience from the project.

The PPH Mottainai program allows patent applicants to request an accelerated processing of a patent application at another office if the application meets the requirements. Accelerated processing enables patent offices to share information and reduces the duplication of work and the examination workload.

The PPH Mottainai project allows examination results to be used as basis of a PPH request irrespective of whether the office is the office with which an application is first filed (Office of First Filing, OFF), or where a subsequent patent application is filed (Office of Second Filing, OSF). The project removes restrictions of the PPH request and gives patent applicants a better opportunity to use the PPH program.

New PPH instructions will be available on our website at the end of the summer.
