Search instructions
Search by application number
Enter the 9-digit application number, which begins with a T/t (for example T200800345 / t200800345), into the search field.
Search by registration number
Enter the national registration number into the search field. If the registration has been divided, you can choose as the search criterion, in addition to the registration number, also the division code (a little digit that indicates that the application has been separated from the base registration). If the registration is a divided one and no division code has been chosen, a list on the registrations under that particular registration number will appear on the screen.
Search by international registration number
Enter the international registration number into the search field. If the registration has been divided, the details of a registration that has no division code and a link to registrations that have a division code will appear on the screen. If a registration without a division code is not designating Finland, only the links to registrations that have a division code will appear on the screen.
Word search
By word search you can search for marks containing a specific word or string of characters. The word/string of characters as such will only search for marks in which that word/string of characters appears disconnected. If you also want to search for a string of characters appearing in the middle of a word, you have to use the truncation mark (*). The truncation mark can be used at the beginning or end or both beginning and end of the string of characters.
For the file used in the word search the following signs have been removed from the words in the mark:
-_.,;:/+?’”!&*( )[ ] |
Likewise, all accent marks have been removed, ü replaced by u, æ replaced by ae, ø replaced by o and the German ß replaced by ss. Consequently, these characters cannot be used in the search criteria.
Examples
- net brings out all marks containing net as a disconnected word, e.g. super net, MB net
- *net brings out all marks containing a word ending in net, e.g. ACCUNET, Cabinet Exclusiv
- net* brings out all marks containing a word beginning with net, such as CARTOON NETWORK, NETCOM
- *net* brings out all marks containing the combination of letters net at some point, such as BENETTON
It is also possible to give more than one search word in the search criteria. These can be combined by the criteria OR, AND and NOT (TAI, JA and EI are also applicable). If a blank space is left between the words, it is interpreted as the criterion OR, and the search looks for marks meeting either of the criteria. If you want to seek for marks containing both of the words, AND must be inserted between them. We advise you to type the search terms in lower case, because the search will not work correctly if the search term is written in upper case and starts or ends with AND, OR, NOT, JA, TAI or EI.
Examples:
- internet world brings out all marks containing either the word internet or the word world (or both) disconnected, e.g. INTERNET LIFE, BEAUTIFUL WORLD
- internet OR world likewise brings out all marks containing either the word internet or the word world (or both) disconnected
- internet AND world brings out all marks containing both the word internet and the word world disconnected, e.g. INTERNET WORLD.
Classes of goods / services
A word search may also be exclusively directed at classes of goods/services desired. Select the classes desired by clicking in the list of classes, the scrolling bar on the right hand side will show you all the classes. If you want, you will find the contents of different classes of goods/services here.
Please note: The classification has changed as from 1 January 2002. In applying for registration for marks in the new service classes 43 to 45, remember to include also class 42 in the search, as the services in classes 43 to 45 have been classified into class 42 in applications and registrations with a filing date preceding 1 January 2002.
Result of word search
As a result of the word search you will obtain a list in alphabetical order of the marks meeting the search criteria. The list shows the application/registration number; words contained in the mark; an X, if the mark involves a device or the word is stylized; and the classes of goods/services. If the word search has been conducted in specified classes only, the search result will only cover the classes included in the search criteria.
Search by client
Search by client takes place in two parts. First you search for a list of all clients meeting the desired criterion:
Enter in the search field the name or part of the name of the client you wish. You can use the truncation mark (*) at the beginning or end or both the beginning and end of the string of characters. Use preferably only one word as the search key. If it is necessary to use two words, you have to put a truncation mark (*) after the first word and a spacing before the second word. The OR-, AND- and NOT- criteria used in word searches cannot be used in searches by client.
Examples:
- kone brings out all clients with a name containing kone as a disconnected word, e.g. Helsingin Kone Oy
- *kone brings out all clients with a name containing a word ending in kone, e.g. Helsingin Kaivinkone Oy
- kone* brings out all clients with a name containing a word beginning with kone, e.g. Helsingin Konevuokraamo Oy
- *kone* brings out all clients with a name containing the string of characters kone, e.g. Helsingin Kaivinkonevuokraamo Oy
As is the case with word searches, the following special signs have been removed from the search words used by the search by clients:
-_ . , ; : / + ? ’ ” ! * ( ) [ ]│
Likewise, all accent marks have been removed, ü replaced by u, æ replaced by ae, Ø replaced by O and the German β by ss. Consequently, these characters cannot be used in the search criterion.
The outcome of the search is a list of the clients meeting the criterion. In the beginning of the page you can see the number of clients that meet the search criteria. Only the first 950 clients can be retrieved at a time, so you have to make a more specific search if the number of clients is bigger than that. The list shows the name, country code and the client code. By clicking the client code you will get lists of this client’s valid trademarks and pending applications. By clicking Additional information you will get access to the basic data on the mark.
Please note: Not all clients in our client register have valid registrations or pending applications.
