121 businesses start up every day
The Trade Register recorded 30,622 new businesses in 2010, meaning an average of 121 businesses were set up each working day. 2010 saw the registration of 15,866 private traders and 12,389 limited liability companies. The number of new businesses grew by 3 per cent from 2009.
At the end of the year, there were 530,000 businesses and housing companies in the Trade Register. The limited liability company is still the most popular type of business listed, but most of the new businesses are private traders.

Information about new businesses
You can look at the new registrations on the Trade Register’s electronic information service on published entries. For example, you can search for business details listed on the register on a certain day – past or present – by entering the date and selecting “establishment” as the type of registration. The search will return a list with these headings: Business ID, company name, type of registration, record number and registration date. Clicking on the date takes you to the relevant details, which include the company’s basic details, and information about the publication.
More detailed information about all businesses in the Trade Register is available from the Virre Information Service, from which you can purchase an electronic Trade Register extract for a given business, and, through company search, you can browse both current details and history for information such as a limited liability company’s previous Boards of Directors.
