BIS services continue to grow in popularity

In 2011, over 17 million business searches were conducted on the Business Information System (BIS), which is jointly maintained by the National Board of Patents and Registration (NBPR) and the Finnish Tax Administration. BIS searches increased by over 1.5% from 2010.

More than half of the notifications on businesses’, organisations’ and foundations’ address and other contact details are filed electronically via the BIS Service. In 2011, the number of electronic notifications on contact detail changes totalled just over 17,000, which is an increase of 9% from 2010. The number of visitors to the information service also rose, totalling 3.4 million, which is an increase of a little less than 1% from 2010.

The BIS Search, which is free and available to everyone, has during its ten-year history become a valued internet brand. The service is used to check basic information about businesses, organisations and foundations that are entered in the registers of both the NBPR and the Tax Administration.

The BIS Service opened at the end of 2009. At the moment, it enables you to file notifications relating to registration matters with the NBPR and the Tax Administration, and to grant authorisations for the filing of notifications. You can also follow up filed notifications and authorisations. Currently, the service can be used to file changes of address and contact details, but, in the future, it will be expanded to allow other notifications to be filed with the NBPR and the Tax Administration.
