BIS Search

The National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland and the Tax Administration jointly maintain the Business Information System (BIS), which is a free, real-time information service on the web at www.ytj.fi. BIS Search provides basic details of Finnish business operators and foundations in Finnish, Swedish and English. You can use BIS Search to search for information about one individual business at a time. Companies that sell selection and search services from the BIS data are listed on BIS’s website, see Data selection services liable to charge.

You can use BIS Search to check the identification and contact information of businesses. In addition to checking an individual business’s basic details, BIS Search is useful when you are in the process of selecting a name for your new business or when you want to change the name of an existing company. You can, for example, make a preliminary check to find out if a certain name has been registered in the Trade Register by another business operator.

Content	BIS Search contains basic details of business operators listed in any of the registers run by the NBPR and the Tax Administration. You can search for details of either active or dissolved businesses. More extensive Trade Register entries, such as persons in charge, are available from the Virre Information Service . BIS Search contains, for example, the following details: Business ID registers in which the business is listed (Trade Register, Register of Foundations, Prepayment Register, Employer Register, VAT Register, Register of bodies liable for tax on insurance premiums, and the Tax Administration’s client register) company name and parallel company name, auxiliary company name and its translations form of business place of registered office main line of business corporate language (Finnish/Swedish) postal and visiting address, telephone number, fax number, email address and website address processing phase of the business (bankruptcy, restructuring, liquidation), and discontinuation of business. It is also possible to check the “register history” of a business using BIS Search, and the different events relating to the Business ID, such as changes in the code, and the date when the code was given. BIS Search also enables you to get information on, for example, mergers and demergers, since the Business ID History section provides links from register entries on the company that has merged to the entries on the receiving company and back.

Updating	BIS Search is a real-time service. Please note: The entry of a bankruptcy, restructuring or liquidation is made in the BIS Information Service only after it has been entered in the register(s) of the NBPR.
