How to apply
There are three ways to apply for a trademark, with:
The application must be signed by you or your representative. If you use the online form, the fee must be paid by online bank transfer. The person who pays the fee is considered to have signed the application.

The application must include the applicant's name or company name, domicile or registered office and address. A trademark can be applied for by either a company, an organisation or a private person.
Private traders applying for a trademark
A foreign applicant with neither domicile nor registered office in Finland must appoint a representative, who is obliged to represent the applicant in all matters concerning the mark. If you have a representative, you must also give their name, domicile or registered office and address. Furthermore, you must enclose a power of attorney with your application.
You must let us know the trademark that you wish to be registered. If you propose several marks, you have to file a separate application for each of them.
If your mark is a word mark, write it in the field "tavaramerkki" (trademark). In the field "muut vaatimukset ja huomautukset" (other requirements and notes) you can add for information that your mark is expressly a word mark.
If you are applying for the registration of a figure mark or a combination mark, attach a picture of it in the field "tavaramerkki" (trademark) and enclose 10 reproductions of archival quality, with a maximum size of 8 x 8 cm. Please note that neither colour photographs nor plastic stickers are of archival quality. If you want us to register your mark in other colours than black and white, please list all the colours in your application. The registration of a mark in black and white permits you to use the mark in any colour combination.
You can make minor changes to a pending trademark, if they do not alter its overall impression.
List the goods or services and classes for which you are applying for a registered trademark. We approve neither "all goods" nor "all services" on the list of goods and services. Furthermore, do not use abbreviations and vague or inaccurate expressions.
The application fees must be paid for the application to become pending. Always enclose a copy of the receipt with your application, whether you post it or bring it to our office. Similarly, an online application will only be registered in our system after you have paid the application fee through your online bank.
We do not refund application fees if the application is rejected or dismissed, even if you yourself withdraw your application.
The protection of a registered trademark begins on the date on which the application is filed. The registration is valid for 10 years from the registration date, and you can renew it every 10 years.
