How to transfer ownership of a trademark

In order to transfer ownership of your registered trademark, you must always file a written application for an assignment ("assignment" is the legal term for a transfer of ownership). The application must be written in Finnish or in Swedish, and a proprietor with neither domicile nor registered office in Finland must appoint a representative provided with authorisation to act on behalf of the proprietor in all matters concerning the trademark.

The application for an assignment must contain the following information:

If a party other than the assignee submits the request for an assignment, this party must also provide an additional document showing the assignee's consent to the transfer.

For registered trademarks, we charge a fee of 50 euros for each update to our register entries. (Please note that when you are an applicant paying from abroad you must also pay any handling fees that the bank charges.)
