LEI codes will be obligatory for trading in listed shares from 2018: apply at the PRH by 5 December 2017

If your company or entity trades in things like listed shares, it needs an LEI code from 3 January 2018. To make sure that we at the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) can register your LEI code before the end of the year, our due date for the receipt of your LEI application is 5 December 2017.

Companies and entities (for example registered associations and foundations) need an LEI code when trading in listed shares, exchange-trade fund (ETF) units and other financial instruments listed on the stock exchange, starting from 3 January 2018. The code is already obligatory for trading in derivatives.

You do not need to have an LEI code if you just own financial instruments. Moreover, you do not need it when redeeming and subscribing for fund units in ordinary investment funds, for example, or when trading in unlisted shares.

Companies and entities with Finnish Business IDs, excluding branches, can apply for an LEI code at the PRH.
