Association: make sure your register details are up to date

Registered associations must make sure their details recorded in the Finnish Register of Associations are up to date.

If the association’s address, rules, executive committee or persons entitled to sign for the association change, file a notification of changes. Changing the name or domicile of the association requires a change to the rules. Registering the executive committee is voluntary.

The chairperson and members of the executive committee are elected at the meeting of the association. In addition, persons entitled to sign for the association are elected. They have the right to act on behalf of the association either on their own or together with another person, under a specific provision in the rules. The details of new persons entitled to sign for the association should be filed with the Register of Associations immediately. This is because various operators in society use the register to check if a person acting on behalf of the association is entitled to sign for the association. Check the details first

Before filing changes, you can use the information service of the Register of Associations to check the details currently recorded in the register. Some of the details are subject to a charge. You can buy an electronic register extract in the service, for example to see the details of the persons entitled to sign for the association. Go to the information service of the Register of Associations.

File changes online

The easiest and least expensive way to file a notification of changes is to use the online filing service of the Register of Associations. Please note that the service is only available in Finnish and in Swedish. The service will help you sign the notification and pay the fee either via your online bank or by credit card.

Anyone can fill in the notification and approve it for signature.

After the notification has been approved, give the filing ID of the notification to the chairperson of the association’s executive committee. You can also use the online service to send the chairperson an email invitation to sign the notification. With the filing ID, the chairperson will find the notification waiting for signature in the service.

After the notification has been signed, anyone can pay the fee via the online service.

The chairperson signs the notification online, which means they must have personal internet banking codes or a mobile certificate.
