Coronavirus situation: remember the deadlines for trademarks and designs

We want to remind you about the deadlines for trademarks and designs and about deadline extensions. We understand that the coronavirus situation causes difficulties for customers and therefore want to support applicants in all ways permitted by law.

Below you will find more instructions on the deadlines.

Trademarks

The deadlines for filing material or statements, or for correcting deficiencies, are set out in the Finnish Trademarks Act. Therefore, we cannot change the deadlines.

We will take into account the exceptional situation caused by the coronavirus when we consider deadline extensions. This means we extend deadlines more easily if the customer cannot act by the deadline due to the coronavirus situation. Customers must pay an extension fee for each extension request.

We cannot extend the absolute deadlines for renewing trademarks or for submitting oppositions against registered trademarks.

Designs

The deadlines for filing material or statements, or for correcting deficiencies, are set out in our design right regulations. In this situation, we consider that there is no need to change the regulations.

We will take into account the exceptional situation caused by the coronavirus when we consider deadline extensions. This means we extend deadlines more easily if the customer cannot act by the deadline due to the coronavirus situation.

We cannot extend the absolute deadlines for renewing design registrations or for submitting oppositions against registered designs.

Decisions

We currently send our decisions by email if you have given us your email address. It is important that you reply to our email to let us know that you have received it. An automatic reply is not sufficient.
