From 12 May 2025, Suomi-fi e-Identification will recommend activating Suomi.fi Messages - only for private persons
Finland is shifting towards primarily digital communication with the authorities. As part of this change, private persons will be prompted to activate Suomi.fi Messages when they identify themselves. From 12 May 2025, you will be recommended to activate Suomi.fi Messages when you identify yourself in an authority’s service using Suomi.fi e-Identification.
Suomi.fi Messages is an electronic mailbox
Suomi.fi Messages is a service that enables you to read letters from the authorities in electronic form. You can use the service either with a mobile application or in the online service at suomi.fi/messages. The services that currently use Suomi.fi Messages include MyTax and Traficom’s My e-Services.
From 12 May, if you want to activate electronic messages when you identify yourself, you can enter your email address and confirm it with a code sent to your email. You can also choose not to activate electronic messages. You will not see the question if you have already activated Suomi.fi Messages.
Not yet in the PRH’s services
The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) has not yet started using Suomi.fi Messages because many of our customers use our services on behalf of companies, associations and other organisations. Suomi.fi Messages is not yet available for them. For now, Suomi.fi Messages is only intended for private persons. We will investigate when we could start sending post to private persons using Suomi.fi Messages.
The Digital First project
Expanding the use of Suomi.fi Messages is part of the Digital First project (Digi ensin) launched by the Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DPDSA) in 2024. The goal of the project is to promote the digitisation of official communications in Finland.
