The Finnish Patent and Registration Office’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report 2024 – Responsible operations are visible in our everyday life
The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) has published its corporate responsibility and sustainability report for 2024. The report describes our work to promote sustainable development and it monitors progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals that we have adopted.
The following areas of responsibility are specified as essential for the PRH’s operations: social responsibility, financial and administrative responsibility, stakeholder responsibility, service responsibility, and environmental responsibility. In addition, we report on the fight against abuse.
Report highlights
- Our social responsibility primarily means responsibility for the development of working conditions, occupational safety and health and skills as well as an obligation to reduce inequality and enhance gender equality.
- Last year, the job satisfaction of our personnel remained at a very high level (4.0). The score for the realisation of equality has also remained high, and pay equality has continued improved. Last year, we also updated our equality plan.
- We organised a communality fair as a continuation of the previous year’s responsibility fair.
- Our financial and administrative responsibility involves the sustainable use of resources. It also includes the legality of our operations and the up-to-dateness of our register data.
- In 2024, the PRH’s financial situation remained good. For example, coverage of the financial statements in the Trade Register decreased slightly. The PRH’s information strategy was adopted. We systematically inspected sanctions in connection with procurements using a tool introduced in the preceding year and published a guide for contract management.
- Our stakeholder work has a significant impact on our customers, and we want to work proactively in different networks. For instance, the PRH continued to coordinate the Real-Time Economy project until the end of 2024.
- The goal of service responsibility is to create excellent customer value by focusing on customer insight and experience and the promotion of digital services. Overall customer satisfaction was again at a good level (4.0). One indication of this is the PRH’s honourable mention of customer-oriented work and the promotion of good language.
- We re-evaluated the PRH’s customer-centred approach with the metrics of the new maturity model. Our customers also actively participated in the development of services.
- We published an online training on information security practices for all our personnel members. No hacking or serious information security breaches or data protection deviations were reported in 2024.
- The goal of environmental responsibility is that our carbon footprint is at a sustainable level. Electricity consumption in our offices at Sörnäisten rantatie 13 increased and heat consumption decreased compared to the previous year.
- No misconduct or offences concerning financial management were identified at the PRH during 2024 and neither did we receive any reports of abuse in the internal or external reporting channels. We approved the PRH’s anti-corruption action plan and programme. We also published instructions for the enforcement of sanctions. We also continued to develop the register of beneficial owners. The PRH continued to receive more notifications of beneficial owners.
The personnel's proposals for acts of responsibility are progressing
In connection with the responsibility fair, the PRH’s personnel were asked to submit proposals for concrete responsibility actions that promote our responsibility goals. The management has selected some of them for promotion from 2024 onwards.
The measures have been scheduled and responsibilities have been assigned, and their implementation is regularly monitored by the responsibility group. They have also been reported in our corporate responsibility and sustainability report.
One of the measures proposed by the personnel was to increase awareness of responsibility. In 2024, we organised a series of three information sessions in which responsibility was examined in line with the so-called ESG framework: environmental responsibility (E), social responsibility (S) and business responsibility (G).
