The PRH has imposed over 47,000 fees for late submission of financial statements – some financial statements still not filed

Since September 2025, the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), which maintains the Finnish Trade Register, has imposed fees for late submission on companies that file financial statements late or fail to file them. Over the past year, the PRH has imposed over 47,000 fees for the late submission of financial statements. Some of the companies that received a decision on the fee failed to file their financial statements altogether.

The financial statements in the Finnish Trade Register provide a view of the company’s financial position, which can be important for customer relations and financing, for example. Failure to file financial statements can result in deregistration from the Finnish Trade Register.

Limited liability companies and co-operatives must file their financial statements with the Finnish Trade Register within eight months of the end of the financial period. The obligation also applies to inactive businesses.

Half of the imposed fees concerned financial statements that were more than four months late

The fee for late submission is at least 150 euros. If the financial statements are more than four months late, the fee is 600 euros.

Nearly one third of the fees imposed during the year concerned financial statements that were less than two months late. Half of the fees were imposed for financial statements that were more than four months late.

“Some 600-euro fees have been imposed on companies who filed their financial statements late. However, some companies have not filed any financial statements for the most recent financial period,” says Legal Officer Jussi Huolman.

Companies that have not filed their financial statements may be deregistered in 2027

If the company’s financial statements are not filed at all, the PRH orders the company into liquidation or removes it from the Finnish Trade Register.

“Our deregistration procedures for the companies that have neglected to file their financial statements will start by early 2027,” says Huolman.

Up-to-date financial statements benefit everyone

Approximately 309,000 financial statements are filed annually with the Finnish Trade Register. Most companies file their financial statements on time.

Comprehensive and up-to-date financial statements benefit society and all those who need the details. When a company files its financial statements by the deadline, parties such as investors and lenders can obtain the details quickly from the Finnish Trade Register.
