Weeefiner Oy (finalist)

Weeefiner Oy is a Finnish technology company. Operating in Jyväskylä, the company focuses on industrial water treatment, particularly on recovering valuable substances from wastewaters.

The 4D Scavenger® technology developed by Weeefiner enables selective and cost-effective recovery of dissolved raw materials directly from industrial process waters. Instead of conventional water treatment based on mass removal, it separates and binds carefully selected target ions, transforming wastewater from a cost item into a valuable source of raw materials.

The Scavenger® technology combines resource efficiency and environmental protection. It has been tested and piloted globally for recovering more than 15 different materials. The solution is suitable for several industries, such as the mining, metal, chemical and energy sectors.

FabPatch Ltd (awarded an honourable mention)

FabPatch Ltd is a Finnish company operating in the circular economy and textiles. Originating from Oulu, the company develops solutions for repairing clothes and other textiles and extending their lifespan.

FabPatch’s Vaatelaastari® repair patch is an innovation that responds to the textile industry’s key challenges: overconsumption, the amount of textile waste, production emissions and environmental impacts by extending the lifespan of products. It reduces textile waste and promotes the circular economy when clothes are used longer and not thrown away.

Vaatelaastari® makes it easier for everyone to repair their clothes, even if they do not have sewing skills or the physical ability to use traditional repair methods. At the same time, it saves natural resources and encourages people to consume more sustainably.

Onego Bio Ltd (awarded an honourable mention)

Onego Bio Ltd is a spin-off company continuing the research of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The company has developed a method to produce egg protein without hens by utilising fermentation and biotechnology.

Bioalbumen® is produced using a method known as precision fermentation. Its amino acid composition is identical to the ovalbumin protein contained in egg white. Onego Bio’s innovation offers the excellent nutritional value and uses of a traditional egg white.

Bioalbumen® reduces greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and land use compared to traditional egg production. It also enables the food industry to have a more sustainable supply chain and a smaller environmental footprint. compared to traditional egg production.
