The Register of Associations has been renewed – all associations now have a Business ID

The Register of Associations at the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) was renewed on 18 September 2019. At the same time, all associations and religious communities received a Finnish Business ID. In addition, we renewed all our information systems and services.

Business ID for all associations

The Business ID (Business Identity Code) replaces the registration number associations were given before. We have issued a Business ID to all associations automatically. If an association already had a Business ID before the renewal, it remains the same.

The Business ID is a code given to businesses and organisations by the PRH or the Finnish Tax Administration. The number consists of seven digits, a dash, and a control mark, for example 1234567-8.

You will find the Business ID of an association in the new information service of the Finnish Register of Associations and in the company search at

New online services and Y forms

We opened a new online filing service for the Register of Associations on 18 September 2019. The service is available in Finnish and in Swedish. It can be used, for example, to found a non-profit association, to file a notification about the members of the executive committee and persons entitled to sign for the association, and to file changes to the association’s contact details, name, domicile or rules.

Our customers have been closely involved in helping us develop the new services, and further development is under way. Filing notifications has been made easy, for example, by providing more extensive prefilled details on the online forms: the user only has to modify the details that have changed. Online notifications are also cheaper and faster to use than paper notifications.

A new information service for the Register of Associations was opened on 18 September 2019. You can use the service to search for basic information about associations and buy extracts and rules. We have taken into account the wishes of our customers also when developing the information service.

Y forms for filing notifications on paper were introduced on 18 September 2019. Y forms are jointly provided by the PRH and the Finnish Tax Administration, and they make it possible to file details with the registers of both authorities with a single notification.
