20 million euro grant scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises to access their intellectual property rights

A 20 million euro grant scheme Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund for small and medium-sized enterprises has kicked off. The system grants IP vouchers for small and medium-sized enterprises based in the EU Member States, intended to help companies to access their intellectual property rights.

Grants for small and medium-sized enterprises

The system is aimed at all small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU that fit the official EU definition of an SME. Read more about the EU definition of an SME.

The system provides financial support based on reimbursements and guidance for drafting national trademark and design applications and EU trademark and Community design applications. Support is also provided for IP pre-diagnostic services (IP Scan) in those Member States where the service is available. Currently, the service is not available in Finland.

Maximum financial support for each company is 1500 euros.

Applications open on 11 January 2021. There are five designated application periods during 2021.

The grant scheme is included in the Ideas Powered for Business initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office EUIPO and in the Action Plan on Intellectual Property of the European Commission. National and regional IP offices of the EU also participate in implementing the system.
