EUIPO announcement: Study of Europeans’ attitudes towards intellectual property

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has announced the IP Perception 2023 study. The study focuses on European consumers’ attitudes towards intellectual property, their respect for industrial property rights and copyright, and their views on the importance of intellectual property in society.

In general, Europeans are very aware of the negative impact of counterfeit products and against the use of illegal sources of online content. Often for economic reasons, the younger people have more tolerant attitudes towards such activity than the older respondents.

The Finns who participated in the study had somewhat more critical attitudes than average towards counterfeit goods and piracy. Under 10 per cent of respondents stated that they had purchased counterfeit goods or downloaded online content from illegal online sources in the past 12 months.
