Minor as a private trader

A minor who is at least 15 years old can be a private trader. This requires consent from the minor’s guardian. The minor and their guardian must both sign the Trade Register notification. The minor’s guardian is the person who has custody of the minor, or a court-appointed guardian.

If the guardian wants to trade on the minor’s behalf, the guardian needs permission from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV), which is the Finnish guardianship authority. Permission from the guardianship authority (DVV) is needed, for example, if the minor cannot engage in the trade due to its nature and scope.

Enclose evidence of permission with your Trade Register notification. The evidence can be, for example, an extract of the granted permission. Please do not send extracts that contain personal identity codes, home addresses, or sensitive details.

Please note that a minor cannot file a start-up notification for a private trader online – the notification must be filed on paper. Go to the page Paper forms for start-up notification of private trader.
